Horses, Horses, Horses

Thursday, December 15th, 2011

Another year, another lovely Wassail Weekend.  My favorite part is always the horse parade – particularly festive when enjoyed from a neighbor’s porch with a very spicy bloody mary.

The horses and riders are decked out in grand style.

Look, unicorns!

And snowmen!

And the big man himself.

Wassail Weekend  - a great way to celebrate the holidays in Woodstock, Vermont.

A little more news…

It’s a gorgeous autumn day here, which is fitting, since Boston Magazine just named Woodstock, VT one of ten Great Fall Getaways. We’re delighted that our little village got a shout-out, and we’re positively tickled that the Blue Horse Inn got a mention as well.  Thanks, Boston Magazine!

A little news…

Wednesday, October 5th, 2011

The American Planning Association just named the downtown Woodstock streetscape one of the top ten great streets in America.  Well done, Woodstock!

Check it out here.

In other news, the temperature is expected to dip into the 20′s for the next two nights.  As a girl from Georgia, I find the first taste of real cold quite exciting.  I’m less fond of freezing nights in May, mind you, but right now a hard chill seems charming, invigorating and seasonally appropriate.

In other, other news, we’ve been working hard in our apartment, which is affectionately known as The West Wing.  Stay tuned for some before and after shots of our progress.

Burn, Baby, Burn

Wednesday, September 28th, 2011

Though we hauled away almost four tons of Irene debris, she still left us with a goodly amount of woody detritus.  That’s right, friends – time for a bonfire.

The blaze, she started off small.

But she did not stay small for long.

Incendio!

Moral of this story: People love a good bonfire.  Our little burn drew quite the crowd; even guests got in on the conflagration. (Hi, Dan, Sue & Daisy!)

Happily rid of Irene’s parting gifts, we can now turn our attentions to more important things, like Fall.  Sneaky little season.

Good Morning from Woodstock!

It’s a beautiful day in Vermont.

The air is just warm enough, and the trees are clad in fantastic shades of lime and chartreuse.

I realize that many of you may already be experiencing summer. Perhaps you are, oh, I don’t know, knee deep in tomatoes and summer squash.  Here, we’re taking things a little slower. There’s still a forlorn patch of snow in the back yard.

But we do have hostas. (Well, those that survived the deer.)

And peonies.

Lilies and something else (I’m working on my green thumb).

A variety of growing and flowering things….

The trees are this close to blooming.

Whatever season you find yourself in, I hope that your day is as beautiful as ours is. And if it’s not, well then, I’d recommend a spring trip to Vermont!
